With the economy booming in China, more and more young Singaporeans start to hunt opportunities to work in China. However, the story also mentioned that the cheating cases are more common than that in Singapore and young boys and girls need to be street smart to avoid any cheat. And there was a comment below stating the same opinion: S’pore business people usually get cheated by Chinese. Judging from the tone, the commenter should have been cheated this way some years ago, I guess.
Nevertheless, I might hold the same opinion some years ago, but now I no longer think this way because Chinese business men have become much more educated than those several years ago, and the concept among this group is changing, collaboration and double-win has impressed a new generation. It is exactly due to this change in value can the economy goes booming in recent years. So I personally encourage these young people to face challenges and make a big difference in their lives.
Compared with language challenge, the culture shock may be much more challenging.
Just live in China, then one needs to behave like a Chinese, which is quite a ride, not mention starting a business. This may require a even greater sophistication which can take a China born university undergraduate decades to learn, again, not mention a S’pore young man. In all, the idea is just great and is also challenging.

Nowadays, the business is more and more globalized. We know that Mainland China is an essential and big market, therefore many foreigners invest in it, including Singapore. It is common sense that there is always cheat in business. Although I agree that the businessmen of younger generation in China have become more educated, but as far as I am concerned, the cheat of business in Mainland China is still a serious problem.
回复删除Singapore, compared to China, is a safer place for investment, because of its integrated laws. I think China government
could learn sth. from it. In addition, if young Singaporeans want to start their business, Singapore is a better place. Different from the opinion above, I don't recommend them to invest in China at the very beginning. In fact, I think it can be done only after they have accumulated some experience on how to do business wisely and carefully, because of the complicated investing environment.
I am not criticizing the China's business. I just tell the truth.
Good luck to those investors.

The market place is still far from a mature one, and this country is now in the centre of quite a few series of unavoidable contradiction and revolution. Finding a job in China and invest in Chinese business are two totally different issues, I wonder if it is appropriate to talk about them together here. For those who want to work in China, I have to say that the environment and challenge in China is more fierce and complicated than you can ever imagine, we Chinese ourselves need to be smart also. And for investors, I think they understand that great profit always lies with great risk, nobody can wait until everything is safe and clear---- then the best chances would be all gone.

回复删除You haven't posted the url of the original article, so I didn't know the case...but judging from what you've said, the article was about young Singaporeans got cheated when doing business in China? I agree that it's quite easy to be cheated in small businesses. Big companies are generally faithful. The economy is booming so fast tha everyone want to make the largest profit from it by whatever means. Chinese people have already got used to this phenomenon, which is very sad. I think China is still a good place to investigate. After all, there are so many chances and such a big market. However, you must be intellegent and mature enough.
